The History of EP Fitness

Over 30 years ago, Scott Kubitz, owner and CEO of Flex Enterprises, turned a passion for bodybuilding into a health and fitness business. With drive and determination, he began with one small west side gym. Today, Scott owns nine local fitness facilities (6 EP Fitness and 3 Roca Fitness) including a brand new 55,000 square foot EP Fitness mega-center on Lee Trevino.
Year after year, EP Fitness wins best fitness center awards in El Paso and is the city's #1 fitness choice.
The following is a brief
history of EP Fitness.
West (Paragon) In 1985, EP Fitness opened its first
location on North Mesa. Then known as Gold's Gym, the 4,500 sq. ft. facility was
the first in El Paso to offer weights, cardio equipment and aerobics classes. At
that time, there were approximately 1,300 members. After five expansions brought
the West side facility to 14,000 sq. ft, in 1997, EP Fitness - West moved into a
22,500 sq. ft. facility across the street on Paragon lane. In 2006, EP Fitness
completed a cardio room, group fitness and indoor basketball court expansion at
the Paragon facility bringing it to 32,000 sq. ft. At the time of its
completion, the Paragon facility was the largest EP Fitness center in the city.
In June of 2016, EP Fitness – Paragon added a state-of-the-art Cross Training and MMA section.
East (James Watt) Later in 1987, EP Fitness opened a 10,000 sq. ft. second
location at 11330 James Watt. At that time, the two facilities had a combined
2,000 members. Since that time, EP Fitness – East had gone several expansions to the point that space limitations necessitated a move with construction of the new Lee Trevino Megacenter.
Montwood
In 2000, EP Fitness
had grown to approximately 8,000 members. EP Fitness opened its third location
at 12145 Montwood. The 20,000 sq. ft. facility increased membership to 11,000.
In 2006, EP Fitness began construction on a NEW EP Fitness center at 11705
Montwood Drive. On December 26th, EP Fitness opened the doors to the first
facility of its kind. At that time, the Montwood Megacenter was the largest EP Fitness center in the city, nearly tripling the size of the existing Montwood
gym. It has full- court indoor basketball, three group fitness rooms, an indoor
running track, spa-like locker rooms for men and women,
and much, much more.
Resler
In March of 2001, the 20,000 sq. ft.
fourth location at 981 N. Resler was officially opened as EP Fitness. At that
time, all locations were changed from Gold's Gym to EP Fitness. EP Fitness had
16,000 members at that time. In May of 2006, EP Fitness completed an expansion
at the Resler gym - adding a huge cardiovasular room and a cycling room for
group fitness classes.
Northeast In December of 2001, EP Fitness added a 22,500
sq. ft. facility at 10060 Rushing Rd in Northeast El Paso. At that time, EP
Fitness had 24,000 members. In December of 2003, EP Fitness completed a 2,500
sq. ft. expansion of the Northeast club, making it the largest EP Fitness center
at the time of completion, at 25,000 sq. ft. In 2006, EP Fitness began
construction on adding full-court, indoor basketball at the Northeast facility
along with other cosmetic and equipment upgrades. On December 26th, the new
Northeast facility became one of three EP Fitness centers to now offer its
members indoor basketball. EP Fitness - Northeast now occupies approximately
33,000 sq. ft. at Rushfair Center.
LEE TREVINO Megacenter On December 3rd, 2013 EP Fitness opened a 55,000 square foot Megacenter on Lee Trevino, making it El Paso’s largest privately owned fitness facility. Lee Trevino is loaded with state-of-the-art pin select and plate loaded machines, the largest cardio theatre of any location and a free weight selection second to none. Other amenities include full-court indoor basketball and a group fitness theatre with 8 projector screens.
In February of 2016, EP Fitness – Lee Trevino added a state-of-the-art Cross Training and MMA section.
At present, EP Fitness has over 100,000 members, occupies over 200,000 sq. ft. citywide and employs close to 300.
